Meet Greg, Business Development Manager

Greg Harry has been a Business Development Manager with the Society for over 13 years, and prior to that was our Branch Manager and Mortgage Advisor in Swansea. We caught up with Greg to find out how he supports the Society’s broker network.

Greg, what do like about your role with Monmouthshire for Intermediaries?

That’s really easy, the people I’m lucky enough to work with and support. We’ve got a cracking team right across the Society, from colleagues in our branch and agency network to those in our Head Office. We’re all working together to provide the best outcomes for our members and customers. What I really love though is getting out and about and meeting our brokers, understanding their needs and working to find effective solutions for their clients. At the end of the day, people make our lives worthwhile. Building and maintaining positive relationships gets me up in the mornings.

You must have found the lockdowns tough on the soul, how did you cope with that?

It was tough. At the start it was a very uncertain time for the mortgage industry, we came to a complete halt and none of us knew how or when we would be able to get started again. Coupled with the immediate isolation and general uncertainty about what was happening, it was a shock to the system. However, we quickly bounced into a very buoyant phase and the Society has gone from strength to strength.

For me, the challenge was connecting with people in a new way. Working from home with strict Public Health measures was a bit strange but we did it. It showed me how resilient we are as a business and as an industry, having the agility and determination to change the way we worked practically overnight with no disruption to service. That was an achievement. I also had my bike which was a great way for me to burn off the stress and strains of the day!

What are your hopes for the future?

To continue building strong relationships within the Society and with our brokers to ensure we are responding effectively and responsibly to changes in the market. We have a strong focus on specialist lending, including supporting brokers with clients who may ordinarily be overlooked by some of the larger lenders. We understand that no two borrowers are the same and for that reason we take a flexible approach.

What would you say to brokers who haven’t worked with the Society before?

Register with us, pick up the phone or drop us an email. I’m even happy to do a video call now I know how! But seriously, we are here to support you and your clients. We take a common sense approach to underwriting and can consider those who differ from the typical borrower. So, get in touch and we’ll see how we can help.

Greg Harry has thrived in several roles at the Society, including Mortgage Advisor and Branch Manager in at our Swansea Branch before taking on the role of a Business Development Manager.
